These mugs, created by ceramicist and sculptor Peter Shire, offer more than just a vessel for your morning coffee or evening tea. A piece of fine art in the palm of your hands. Perfect for a cup of your favorite coffee while reading your favorite book. And like a good book they are hard to put down.

They are crafted in small series using slab construction and hand rolling techniques by residents of the Echo Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. Each mug is then individually hand-painted in its own unique pattern and color combination. No two are exactly alike. 

Peter Shire is an LA-based artist whose work eludes all attempts at categorization. He has created ceramics, furniture, toys, interior designs, and public sculptures, that seem to at once reference and parody influences such as Bauhaus, Futurism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. This subversive humor and playfulness extend throughout his work and made him a natural fit for the controversial and iconic Milan-based Memphis design group, of which he was a founding member. Born in Los Angeles, in the Echo Park area where he still resides today, Shire is a native in a city that prides itself for the many cultures and languages it comprises.
